Dr. Mahtani was actually suspected for illegally changing the ZPCL shareholding. Antonio Ventriglia claimed ZPC to be his own firm. He said that he only took financial help from Dr. Mahtani while establishing the cement manufacturing plant. Antonio even added that Dr. Rajan Mahtani from the very beginning had a bad intention and so he proposed a stake in Portland Cement, which the family unwillingly gave him. Dr. Mahtani after getting 49% shareholding from the Ventriglias changed it to even more percentage shareholding without their consent. This was unlawful ranging the Ventriglias.
The Ventriglias filed a legal suit against Dr. Rajan Mahtani for illegally taking Zambezi Portland Cement from them, but unfortunately, they lost the case. The Supreme Court in its recent judgement in November 2013 declared that Rajan Mahtani is the owner of Zambezi Portland Cement by recognizing Finsbury’s Interest in the cement manufacturing plant.
However, it was found out on several occasions that Antonio Ventriglia and his wife who were the former directors of Zambezi Portland Cement stole money from the company account and used it for buying properties in Ndola. Presently, investigations are being conducted with regards to this issue. Until the investigations are complete, it has been decided that they will be barred from accessing their properties and joint bank account at Access Bank.
